Why now?

AI is transforming how we live, work, and innovate, and the demand for digital infrastructure is rising at an extraordinary pace. Countries around the world are competing for the investment, skills, and systems needed to lead in this new economy.

The UK Government has responded with AI Growth Zones, designed to accelerate delivery and secure global competitiveness. But the opportunity is time-limited. The infrastructure to support AI, supercomputing, cloud services, and grid flexibility must be planned and built now.

Ravenscraig is ready, it has the land, a confirmed 550MW grid connection, and land already earmarked for regeneration, Ravenscraig is uniquely placed to deliver fast, future-ready infrastructure.

Local and national impact

As digital demand grows, data centres have become essential to national resilience. They underpin everything from AI and education to public health and defence. Recognised as Critical National Infrastructure (Essential Infrastructure under NPF4 in Scotland), they support the UK’s economic strength, digital sovereignty, and ambition to lead in AI.

While data centres are often seen as power-hungry, projects like Ravenscraig are designed differently, allowing us to use more renewable power. By capturing and reusing energy that would otherwise be curtailed, they cut waste, strengthen the grid, and directly support the UK’s Net Zero Strategy. Alongside this national role, Ravenscraig will bring jobs, investment, and opportunity to the local community.
