As digital demand grows, data centres have become essential to national resilience. They underpin everything from public health and defence to AI and education. Recognised as Critical National Infrastructure (Essential Infrastructure under NPF4 in Scotland), they support the UK’s economic strength, digital sovereignty, and ambition to lead the digital economy.
While data centres are often seen as power-hungry, projects like Ravenscraig are designed differently, allowing us to use more renewable power. By capturing and reusing energy that would otherwise be curtailed, they cut waste, strengthen the grid, and directly support the UK’s Net Zero Strategy. Alongside this national role, Ravenscraig will bring jobs, investment, and opportunity to the local community.
